The Odyssey Creative Projects
Below are ideas for projects on The Odyssey unit we are studying. Any of these suggestions may be done without prior approval, but if you select a project that is not on the list, you must see me for approval. Your project will be graded on the amount of knowledge you present, the creativity of your project, and all the mechanics of good writing.
Due Date: Thursday, February 5, 2015
1. Mount Olympus Newspaper
a. Create a newspaper that the Gods might have read. You will need to include popular sections just like a real newspaper: sports, world news, local news, entertainment, comics, advice column, etc. Make sure that the contents of your newspaper reflect all your knowledge of Greek Mythology and The Odyssey. Your project will be graded on the amount of knowledge that you present, the creativity of your project, and all mechanics of good writing.
2. Create a Comic Strip

3. Journal of Letters

In these letters, Odysseus vividly describes life in war, life on the boat, and life during his many adventures. Write a journal of AT LEAST 6 of these letters, using the proper format of a letter. Each letter should be at least one page in length. Although you do not have to type the assignment, it must be legible. It can be done by hand, typed, blogged, etc. You will be graded on creativity, integrity to the original epic, and writing conventions.
4. Life Graph for Odysseus
a. Show all major events from Odysseus’ side of The Odyssey on an illustrated time line. This assignment MUST include illustrations, labels, and quotes. Remember that this assignment will be graded on creativity, integrity to the original epic, writing conventions, and final appearance. Feel free to use technology websites.
5. Odysseus’ Adventure
a. Create and write a new adventure for Odysseus. Include participants in the adventure, its setting, and how the incident will help Odysseus on his journey or impede it. This assignment must be a minimum of 3 pages in length, double-spaced, 12 pt. font in Times New Roman, Arial, or Calibri. Remember that this assignment will be graded on creativity, integrity to the original epic, and writing conventions.
6. Artistic Work
a. Create a full-sized drawing, sculpture, or painting for The Odyssey. It must represent at least one aspect of the epic poem (Odysseus battling Polyphemus, Penelope weaving at her loom, Athena watching Odysseus, etc.). Please include a one page explanation/description with the piece. Remember that this assignment will be graded on creativity, effort, and integrity to the original epic.
